System-wide failures during Oct. 7 will be examined thoroughly, Israel state comptroller vows

Israel’s State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman vowed that “no stone will be left unturned” when his office examines the “failures on all levels – policy, military and civilian” of Oct. 7, according to the Times of Israel.

Engelman announced that the various aspects of the failures that took place on Oct. 7 – when Hamas terrorists overran the Israeli-Gaza border, killing some 1,200 people and kidnapping around 240 – would be examined in the coming months.

Among them are the conduct of the government’s security cabinet, in general, as well as the conduct of policymakers and the military on Oct. 7 itself; the state of intelligence preparedness; the defense posture on the Gaza border; the preparedness of the civilian response squads in the border region; the transfer of funds to Hamas; and the state of equipment supplied to IDF soldiers.

In addition, the comptroller’s office will examine the government's response following the outbreak of the war, including all major policy decisions since the conflict began.
