Two Israeli citizens were shot and murdered by a terrorist in the West Bank on Saturday afternoon.

The 60-year-old father and his 29-year-old son were murdered at a car wash in the Palestinian town of Huwara.

The terrorist fled following the murder, and Israel Defense Forces is currently searching for him and operating roadblocks throughout the area. In addition, the IDF is analyzing the video footage from road cameras in the vicinity.

The two victims were treated by paramedics at the scene but pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

Tomer Gussman, one of the paramedics, described the scene: “Two wounded, a 60-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, were lying unconscious in a car wash station with gunshot wounds. We administered medical assistance and carried out advanced CPR, together with an IDF medical unit.”

When the medical teams arrived, ambulances from the Palestinian Red Crescent were already on the scene, attempting to save the victims’ lives, Israel’s Channel 12 news reported.

Thirty-three Israelis have been murdered in terror attacks for far in 2023; a higher number of victims than all of 2022.

According to media reports, a number of Palestinians were arrested at the car wash station, including the owner, following suspicion that the terrorists were called to the scene after hearing the Israelis speaking Hebrew.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant is expected to meet security officials for a situational assessment later on Saturday evening.

As part of the search after the terrorist and his helpers, several hundred IDF soldiers raided the nearby village of Ourif.

Additional army and police forces were sent to reinforce the area in the case of revenge attacks by Israeli settlers.

Representatives of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) praised the terror attack in public statements.

A Hamas spokesperson said the attack served “to protect our people, respond to the crimes of the occupation, and defend the Al-Aqsa mosque."

The town of Huwara lies around 5 km (about 3 miles) south of Nablus, along Highway 60, one of the West Bank’s busiest roads.

Huwara has been the scene of repeated terror attacks in recent years, as many Israeli settlers use Highway 60 to reach their homes.

It is unclear why the victims chose to wash their car in the town.
