The Israeli government announced on Sunday that it successfully prevented Iran from perpetrating a terrorist attack against Israelis and Jewish visitors in Cyprus.

The Mossad, Israel's national intelligence agency, reportedly played a prominent role in thwarting the Iranian attack against Israeli civilian targets.

The Prime Minister’s Office praised Mossad’s successful anti-terrorism operation. In addition, Jerusalem vowed to continue fighting against the Iranian ayatollah regime and its global terrorist network.

“The State of Israel is using a wide range of methods everywhere in order to defend Jews and Israelis and will continue to act in order to uproot Iranian terrorism wherever it rears its head, including in Iran, the main fomenter of terrorism in the world,” according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.

Cypriot media reported earlier on Sunday that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was plotting attacks against Israelis and Jews on the Mediterranean island. While the potential target has not been officially specified, Israeli media speculated that the Iranian regime was planning an attack against a kosher restaurant or a local Chabad house.

Israeli and American intelligence services played an instrumental role in neutralizing the Iranian terror cell from attacking Israeli civilians. Cypriot officials indicated that the Iranian terror cell had been operating from the northern part of the island, which is currently under Turkish occupation.

The Jewish state’s National Security Council recently warned that Iran could attempt to strike Israelis in Cyprus and Greece. Both countries attract a large number of Israeli tourists and have growing Israeli expat communities.

It was reported earlier in June that Israel would potentially export hundreds of its older Merkava tanks to two European countries. While Ukraine was mentioned as one possible destination, Cyprus was reportedly the second country to potentially acquire the famous Israeli tanks.
