Iran threatens Israel with ‘consequences’ if Gaza war continues

Tehran also sends warnings to Israel through UN channels

Iran’s permanent UN mission warned of “far-reaching consequences” if the IDF does not stop bombing Gaza.

“If the Israeli apartheid’s war crimes & genocide are not halted immediately, the situation could spiral out of control & ricochet far-reaching consequences—the responsibility of which lies with the UN, the Security Council & the states steering the Council toward a dead end,” read the statement posted to X on Sunday.

Iran also sent a message to Israeli officials via the United Nations stating it would intervene if Israel’s bombing of Gaza does not end, reported the Jerusalem Post.

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Beirut on Saturday.

The Iranian foreign minister is touring the region to discuss the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas with the ayatollah regime’s local partners and proxies.

The meeting drew harsh condemnation from Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, who announced that he would shun all contact with Wennesland until he condemns Iran for its complicity in the brutal Hamas attack a week ago.

Wennesland, on Saturday, met “with the Iranian foreign minister. Who financed the murder of our children. And say nothing! No condemnation! It won't go on like this. The rules have changed! We will not continue to accept the legitimacy that the UN gives to the Nazi regime of Iran that openly calls for the destruction of Israel,” Erdan posted to X, formerly Twitter.

“Until [Wennesland] does not publicly condemn the regime of the Ayatollahs, I am officially announcing the severance of all contact with him. Let him wash his hands of the blood of our children,” Erdan wrote.

Amir-Abdollahian on Saturday warned that the “Axis of Resistance” could respond to Israeli “crimes” during a meeting in Lebanon with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and leader of the terror organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Ziyad al-Nakhala.

Tehran’s foreign minister then continued to Doha, Qatar, to meet Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, after also meeting with Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister.

Erdan also blasted Qatar for hosting Amir-Abdollahian and Hamas leadership and for the conduct of the Qatar-based and owned news channel Al Jazeera.

“The poisonous hatred and lies that they ceaselessly spread on their terror amplifier Al Jazeera, and the red carpet that they roll out for ruthless murderers is clear proof that Qatar does not belong in the family of nations,” Erdan said.

The meeting between Amir-Abdollahian and Haniyeh was the first since the Hamas invasion of Israel's border with Gaza on Oct. 7. The two leaders reportedly agreed to “continue cooperation to fully achieve the goals of Hamas and the Palestinian people,” according to a press release by Hamas.

Amir-Abdollahian’s trip includes visits to Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, as he attempts to garner support for operations against Israel.

The Iranian foreign minister warned Israel to stop the attacks on Gaza or face a “huge earthquake of resistance” and insinuated that Hezbollah could soon enter the conflict.
