Anger, pride and a spot of light: Fathers of two Israeli hostages mistakenly killed meet for first time
Avi Shamriz and Fuad Talalka met for the first time since the incident: 'Crying will not bring them back'
About three weeks after the accidental shooting incident, which resulted in the deaths of the hostages Alon Shamriz, Yotam Haim and Samer Talalka, and a week after the publication of the IDF investigation that revealed the chain of malfunctions that led to the horrible tragedy, their parents met for the first time.
In a meeting between Fuad Talalka, Samer’s father, and Avi Shamriz, Alon’s father, the two cried, hugged, and tried to strengthen each other.
"We were supposed to have a party today, to hug the children and kiss them," said Alon’s father.
“It turned out to be the opposite," added Samer’s father.
"Do you think we can sleep like normal people? You put your head on the pillow, and everything that happened doesn’t come out of your head. Crying won’t bring them back," Fuad said to comfort Avi.
